Quiet Times

Is it Christmas time already?  Gone are big, decorated trees, big presents, and big family get-togethers. Now Christmas is peaceful and quiet. Small gifts of pinecones and candy canes are full of joy. Our lives are divided into times of high school, college, young children, grown children, pets, houses, jobs, and more. My time now is slow and quiet. I think I was always meant to be in this quiet time. I appreciate the noisy times of life because I did things and met people. Now I enjoy my quiet time with my garden, my books, and my TV shows.

"You need to get out of your rut." Why?
I made my rut doing what I like. It's a good rut for me.

Last year I went to McDonald Garden Center for fall mums.  I was the only customer there. One of the guys said "Hey, you look like a gardener! I can take your picture if you'd like me to."  So I said "Sure" and he did. You can see my car in the background and the shadow of the guy's head."  It was a bit odd but so am I.

Sometimes it's just fun to be spontaneous.

This is my greenhouse. I like gardening. I get fresh air, exercise (no gym for me!), pretty flowers, birds and squirrel entertainment and quietness. I don't smoke or drink and instead pay a lawncare company. I plant flowers, prune bushes and pick blueberries. All in all, it's a good gig.

Life of Birds

The trees are starting to bud. The birds are singing. Spring is on it's way.  I work in the garden, sip iced tea and read books. After working so hard for so many years I have to remind myself that it's okay for me to now live a life of leisure.

Snow!

The day it snowed I went outside and shoveled a path to the bird feeder. Since it was below freezing the snow was still powder so it wasn't heavy.  It was deep! I threw a handful of seed out for the squirrels. They must have thought they were on an Alaskan cruise looking at glaciers.

The next day the snow was all crusty. It was funny to watch the birds and squirrels bounce across the top of the piles.
